In Dubai I like the Radisson Blu at Deira creek got a nice outlook and not too expensive!
As for London/Canary wharf you should be able to find a branded hotel that's of ring a discount on Hotels.com or Expedia or similar

Good Luck

Always recommend this one for Dubai.

It's in the old Bastakiya district, which looks like something out of 1001 Nights, rather than the glitzy side of Dubai.

In London try St Christopher backpacker hostel, cheap, clean and in good locations, one at London Bridge for 20 to 30 quid a night, be careful in April London Marathon 3rd weekend so everywhere will be mobbed.

Dubai you can get a decent airport hotel with a pool cheap if you book last minute. Again check for any of the numerous religious days that can either inflate or deflate prices and demand
